Birding in the Wild Taman Rimba Ampang Series 21

I say man. This is another wonderful place for birding. However you must follow birders with spotting scope. The birds are colourful and exotic but tend to perch too high to see. Spotting them need some patience. There are open ground from the tarmac road that you can set up your gear and wait for them to drop by.

Best time to be around is from 8.00-11.00 am in the morning. The morning sun just in the right position for you to have good lighting for digiscoping. Well I have decided to buy myself a secondhand Leica APO- Televid 77 spotting scope. Unlike Fraser Hill the birds here are a bit elusive and tend to stay high up in the canopies. Any one selling out there. I would have got a better picture of the Scarlett Minivet if I digiscope We are talking 100 ft up. Its very rewarding to sight the colourful species if they do come close to the low fruiting jungle trees. Met couple of birders and manage to sight with their spotting scope Just beautiful.

Too bad started late at 10am and finished at 12 noon. All in all sighted about 10 species of birds. The place also have some gorgeous butterflies and primate pig-tailed macaque if you see them. After the morning session and a bit of cooling off in the river you can have a sumptuous brunch or lunch of Ampang Yong Tow Foo. See my other post for the best restaurant.
