Proton Satria Neo

I say man this car have some good look but inside so so. At the price of RM I think it saleable product. Two door is not for a family man like me. I am still waiting for Proton MPV or the Wira Aeroback replacement.

My compliments to the new management who listens to the market's want. Proton must also embrace new engine technology to compete in the international market. A step behind is alrite but without even VVT is bad.

Birding in the wild - Gita Bayu near UPM Kajang

Today got to spot a pair Goldenbacked Woodpecker at the Bukit Gita Bayu enclave. They were pecking on the rubber tree trunks looking for grubs. I have only my wide angle lens but snap away. Last I saw a female was in PD during the raptor watch.

Birding in Ampang Forest Reserve Part 2

This time round we went early.... reaching the place at 9.am sharp after fetching Hui & Teng2. Spend half an hour at the carpark trying to catch the woodpecker but instead caught a grey and brown breasted bird which I cannot id from my book. Will check with the Yahoo birders guys later.

Started walking along the road and bingo all the birds just fly in and walla there are the woodpeckers.... 2 species at the same time. I was so excited

The male Brown capped (with red streak at its cheek) and then the Crimson winged. Usually in pairs which I also manage to photograph

At the same time a handful of curious Drongo flew in and it was a bonanza. The Greated Racquet tailed is quite a huge bird more than a feet long. Silky black with red eyes. It montane cousin is a half it size. Last saw them was in Pulau Jerejak but then I managed a silhouette shot.

Walking back to the carpark we managed to see the blue-tailed bee eater in action... catching insects in the air. It always perch on the same branch on its return before flying off to catch the next.

All in all it was a fruitful outing . All photos taken with the old faithful EF70-300mm IS USM lens. For handheld birding photography image stabiliser is a must.

Why you are not the Boss

>All the organs of the body were having a meeting, trying to decide who was the one in charge.

>"I should be in charge," said the brain , "because I run all the body's systems, so without me nothing would happen".
>
>"I should be in charge," said the blood, "because I circulate oxygen all over so without me you'd all waste away."
>
>"I should be in charge," said the stomach," because I process food and give all of you energy."
>
>"I should be in charge," said the legs , "because I carry the body wherever it needs to go."
>
>"I should be in charge," said the eyes, "because I allow the body to see where it goes."
>
>"I should be in charge," said the rectum, "Because I'm responsible for waste removal."
>
>All the other body parts laughed at the rectum and insulted him, so in a huff, he shut down tight.
>
>Within a few days, the brain had a terrible headache, the stomach was bloated, the legs got wobbly, the eyes got watery, and the blood was toxic. They all decided that the rectum should be the boss.
>
>The Moral of the story?
>
>The ASSHOLES are usually in charge !!

Birding in the Wild Taman Rimba Ampang Series 21

I say man. This is another wonderful place for birding. However you must follow birders with spotting scope. The birds are colourful and exotic but tend to perch too high to see. Spotting them need some patience. There are open ground from the tarmac road that you can set up your gear and wait for them to drop by.

Best time to be around is from 8.00-11.00 am in the morning. The morning sun just in the right position for you to have good lighting for digiscoping. Well I have decided to buy myself a secondhand Leica APO- Televid 77 spotting scope. Unlike Fraser Hill the birds here are a bit elusive and tend to stay high up in the canopies. Any one selling out there. I would have got a better picture of the Scarlett Minivet if I digiscope We are talking 100 ft up. Its very rewarding to sight the colourful species if they do come close to the low fruiting jungle trees. Met couple of birders and manage to sight with their spotting scope Just beautiful.

Too bad started late at 10am and finished at 12 noon. All in all sighted about 10 species of birds. The place also have some gorgeous butterflies and primate pig-tailed macaque if you see them. After the morning session and a bit of cooling off in the river you can have a sumptuous brunch or lunch of Ampang Yong Tow Foo. See my other post for the best restaurant.

Birding in AlorSetar Series 20

Went for a birding stroll at Taman Saga. Got myself a handful of new species sighting other the usual magpie, sparrow and squawking koel. the padi fields nearby are been filled and planned for development of houses. I think the yellow one is a common Iora basing from my bird guide

Meanwhile pockets of weeds, lallang and scrubs trees started to sprout landfill creating temporary habitats for a myriads of Munia besides the Baya Weaver. The BW nest are very well made and hang from the low shrub trees and they do have chicks inside them. so don't disturb them.

The Munia can be seen in cages of pet shops. My only guess is that they can be easy caught in the night when they are asleep perch on low lying trees. More often they are bought and released by Buddhist - "Fong sang" as a good deed.

Remnant water hole also create suitable habitat for waterbirds like water cock and the Cinnamon Bittern here seen flying gracefully pass me.

The tiny guy was doing its courting dance Its definately a long-tailed tailorbird darting here and there.
